In early July we hosted Willard and Elizabeth from Columbia city in Minnesota USA. We had a wonderful weekend, cycling up and down the coast looking at the castles. They have sent us a wonderful poem to remember their stay.
We hosted our biggest group yet when Piyush Patel and 24 other Dads and their sons arrived for a one day ride. They had requested a gentle 25 miler somewhere in North Wales.
In late June the biking Belles arrived for their guided cycling week. Alison, Fiona, Lisa, Melanie and Noreen all from the same cycling club, the Chichester biking Belles, arrived on a hot Sunday afternoon for five days of road cycling in and around Snowdonia.
That’s another year of cycling nearly over, and what a year it was! We had very good weather here in North Wales, with many warm, dry and sunny days to enjoy. There haven’t been many days this year when we have had to get our rain jackets on during a ride. We have had some stunning rides up and down the coast, and into the mountains, all of them memorable in their own way.
Unless you live in southern Europe or you are able to get away for most of the winter to a warmer part of the world there is no escaping the fact that we are well and truly at the beginning of another good old British winter! It’s November and that means, dark mornings and evenings. Coupled with the decreasing temperatures, increasing wind speeds and rainfall, it’s not the best conditions for cycling!!
We headed out from Dyffryn Ardudwy at about 9.30am to cycle approximately 50km. Not the longest ride for a Sunday, but the forecast showed heavy rain spreading in by lunchtime. Yesterday we got soaked cycling in the mountains, so we thought today we’ll try and stay dry!
The thing about cycling in October in the UK is you never know what to expect. Studying the weather forecast is not always reliable, especially when cycling along the West coast of Wales, or any coast for that matter.
Learning to ride a bike is something that most of us do when we are very young, but how many of us continue this into our adult lives? Riding a bike is also something we never forget how to do, no matter what age we are.
